Year Six Geography Project – River Formation Explanation

Hi Guys,

Good to speak to some of you again this morning, hopefully I will catch the rest of you over the next coming days.

This half term we were mean’t be studying a geography unit on rivers.  I thought it would be great to build up an understanding of what rivers are and how they are formed; then apply some of our writing skills by showing the information as an explanation text.

First things first, please click on the link  below and watch/read the following information.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z849q6f/articles/z7w8pg8

Writing Task:

Please create a word document (can hand write if you can’t and send a photo) explaining clearly what rivers are and how they are formed – IN YOUR OWN WORDS.  I suggest writing some short notes for each paragraph and then expanding them in your own words to form the explanation.  Try and follow the LO and SC below.

LO – To write an explanation text.

Success Criteria:

  1. I can write in the present tense.
  2. I can use technical/geographical vocabulary.
  3. I can use cause and effect conjunctions to explain how one effect leads to another.
  4. I can use a variety of commas, brackets and dashes for parentheses.

Now you can send your work directly to me at – westgreen.violetclass@gmail.com

Please complete the task by Wednesday the 6th of May.  I look forward to reading them.

ALSO, FINAL CALL FOR THE POETRY COMPETITION – ENTRIES IN BY TOMORROW PLEASE!
