Morning All,
Here is a little puzzle for our maths wizards in year 5 and 6. This has stumped a lot of people, so I am going to give you a couple of hints. First of all, remember the RULES of mathematical sums. My second hint is look very carefully. If no one has got it by Friday I will release another hint!!
NEW CLUE!!!!!
Many of you have got very close with the answer 101. That means you have recognised that BIDMAS is needed in the final calculation. My next hint it is look VERY CLOSELY AT THE FINAL LINE.
The solution will be posted this time next week.
Please send your answer – admin@westgreen.haringey.sch.uk
GOOD LUCK!!
Mr Spours and Patrick
I think its 101 because if you do 20×5 is 100 and 100+1 is 101
You’re on the right tracks Rumen but not quite! Read the hints!
Is it 105?I mean if I look at it, I think we have to look at the flowers carefully and try to find out what each one is worth. One red flower is equal to 20.One blue flower is equal to 5.One yellow flower is equal to one and two yellow flowers are equal to 2.I replaced each flower with a number and did that to get to 105.
Afraid not Sophia, some good thinking there but not quite.
red flower = 20
blue flower = 5
yellow flower = 2
Last thing i did was 22 x 5 and i got 110!
Opps.. i just found out i wasn’t suppose to give to answer..sorry
It’s okay Davmie, I’m afraid you’re incorrect so no problem. Keep trying though, I can see some good thinking in your working below.
The answer is 101 because the red flower is 20 the blue flower is 5 two yellows are 2 and one yellow is 1.
I think rumen said that and Mr Spours said No quite, but he was on the right tracks.
This is a very common answer Erdem, showing you’re on the right lines, but have missed a SMALL detail that will change your answer to the correct one.
I don’t know why but nearly everyone gets 101 and I got it to. So my answer is 101
Ha! This is because you’re all missing a slightly annoying detail, which changes the answer. Getting 101 shows that your methods are correct, so you don’t need to worry about that – you need to look at the bottom line more closely.
I think its 81 because 20×4 is 80 and 80+1 is 81
Good job Rumen!!! Well done.
Can you explain why you multiplied the 20 by 4 instead of 5?
Good lad Rumen!! As Patrick said, can you explain why you changed your method?
I multiplied 20 by 4 instead of 5 because the last flower has only 4 leaves

I believe the answer is equal to the number of goals Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the Premier League?
