Y2 PE: Sports Day at Home!

Sports Day is one of the most fun days of the year at school. So I’m doing my best to give you some ideas about how you could create your own Sports Day at home, or in your nearest park!

Below are some races you could try and set up with your family.

Please make sure you set up the races in enough space so that you are safe and won’t easily hurt yourself. Doing these activities must be supervised by your parents or carers and they are responsible for your safety!

The Egg and Spoon Race

Don’t be a cheater though like some of those smaller kids! You’re not allowed to hold the egg with your hands or your fingers! If you don’t want to use an egg, you could use scrunched up pieces of paper.

Bin Bag Sack Racing

Or you could use pillow cases. Race up and down in a garden or in a park.

Book Balance Race

This sports day event seems to be popular in India. I found quite a few videos! Have a go yourself at home!

Wheelbarrow Racing

This is a race that needs two players to be on the same team. The bigger person stands up and holds the ankles of the smaller person. The smaller person uses their hands to walk, while the bigger person directs them. This video is from a country called the Philippines.

What if it’s raining? Make an indoor obstacle course using your furniture and your toys!

If you only have a small space, try to be as creative as possible. Be careful with doors. You could use the outside area too to make up an obstacle course!

Collect the ball race

You don’t need to use balls. You could race to collect any objects and put them in a basket, or a bag! Be creative!

Hopefully this has given you some great ideas to organise a really fun Sports Day at home. Don’t forget to make sure you do a running race at the end!

    Hello Mr Morgan,
my favorite race was the spoon with the egg and you did not show the race that the child runs and gives the other child a ball.

My favourite race was the Trash Bag Race and you didn’t show the one where people put Hula Hoops on the floor and you throw the bean bags into the hoops.

    • Mr Morgan says:

Have you tried the trash bag race? I want you to actually find a way of doing one or two of these races!

The reason I didn’t share a video of hula hoops is because many of you will not have hula hoops at home. If you have a hula hoop at home, that’s great, you could easily use it to make a sports day event!

    Hi Mr Morgan.
My favourite race is the wheelbarrow race, because it is challenging.
My favourite is Pig in the middle game, racing around so the ball wont catch you.
    Thank you.
