Delivery! Hop aboard on the crazy boat for some fun seaside activities each and every Thursday.
Let’s get started with a reminder of our competition. Which part of the UK has the best beaches?
Last week I showed a video from the West of Scotland. There were some beautiful beaches on some very beautiful islands. The sea is a bit colder up in Scotland though, I’m not sure if I would be brave enough to get in my swimming trunks and have a splash! If you missed it, or want to watch it again, go back to last week’s blog post.
This week we’re looking at maybe Jeannie’s favourite choice, the South of Wales! Enjoy the video.
In what ways were the videos from the West of Scotland the South of Wales similar? Were they different in any way?

Next Thursday we’ll be looking at the beaches of Northern Ireland, and there will be another fun activity for you to do! Don’t forget to do the comments challenge to win yourself another merit.
Also, remember to check yesterday’s blog post. We were playing a game where you had to fix each other’s sentences. Keep playing and fixing! I will answer any of your questions not completed at 5pm today.
The beaches in the first video, in Scotland, tend to be quieter than those in Wales. There are not many big towns or cities near the first video.
I hope you are feeling good at the moment Melina, I hope to have another email from you soon! 🙂
Hi.
West of Scotland is more flat, flat beaches, cleaner water, lots of stones, nice sandy beaches, lots of beautiful islands.
South of Wales has big cliffs, lots of rockpolls, town’s nearby, a very cool lighthouse.
Both have big waves.
Very nice beaches.
Thank you.
Hi Mr Morgan
I like Wales because the sea was more beautiful and the sand was more lighter also the rocks were enormous.
The cliffs were much larger, yes! Lots of sea-birds like to make their nests in cliffs. I’m sure there are many along the south coast of Wales.
Hi Mr Morgan,
I love Wales the most. It also have a place with the looooooooooongest name.
???Even Scotland
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
Why don’t you practise handwriting that word three times and send it to me at westgreen.yellowclass@gmail.com ?
Both beaches are beautiful ?, West of Scotland beach looks flat and clean. South of Wales beach have lots of cliffs and rocks, lighthouse.
The Scottish beaches were definitely next to flatter land. Well done for noticing! The lighthouse too is different, although I am sure there are many lighthouses in Scotland too, we just didn’t see them in last week’s video.
A question for everyone – Does anyone know why lighthouses exist?
Hi.
The lighthouses exist, to shine a light in the dark for the boat to come to the shore.
Usualy is 2 lighthouses, one in front of the other one, when you see the 2 light in line from the sea that is mean where you have to go to park the boat.
My dad moved a lighthouse up in Scotland.
Thanks
Yes, that is true. Lighthouses help boats know where they are. Thanks for telling us Aaron!
But lighthouses can make noise as well. Why do they use a foghorn?
Hi.
I think they use foghorn, to hear the horn in the fog, so they dont crash to the cliffs.
Thank you
The two main purposes of a lighthouse are to serve as a navigational aid and to warn boats of dangerous areas. It is like a traffic sign on the sea.
The things that are similar are bays, beaches, cliffs and mountains.
The diffences are Wales has lighthouses but Scotland doesn’t, Scotland has islands but Wales doesn’t and Scotland has tides but Wales doesn’t.
Thank you Safiyyah. There are tides all over the UK. At high tide the beach is small, but at low tide the beach is much larger because the sea is further away. So Wales does have tides, I promise you!
Hi Mr Morgan,
Light houses exist because they help ships to avoid rocks with it’s light in the house at night.?
That is the main reason they exist, yes. Before lighthouses, lots of ships carrying important things would crash and sink. It was costing countries a lot of money. Four hundred years ago there were no planes, no trains and no cars. So the only way people could travel around the world was by boat. If the boats crashed, it was a disaster!
Thanks Mr Morgan for teaching me boat I like you sooooooooo much
Yeah, yeah yeah.
???
Hi Mr Morgan,
The difference between the two beaches are the West of Scotland’s beach was next to a flatter land but the south of Wales beach was next to a higher land. Also, south of Wales beach has a lighthouse.
Yes Dila, the beaches in the west of Scotland were next to much flatter land.
I hope you are well and I hope you are trying your MyMaths and Purple Mash! Thank you for your other comments on other blog posts as well.
Both beaches are beautiful. But I liked the Wales one better. The main purpose of the Light house is it light navigate the boats and work as a traffic light on the sea.
