Black History Month

For Black History Month Year 1 children have learnt about an amazing British painter and writer called Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. The figures in her portraits are all fictions, conjured from a scrapbook of memories.

The Year 1 children have been focusing on Lynette’s portraits of animals and humans. The animals are the significant features in her portraits, as she puts it: ‘The powerful ones, who see the weaknesses in humans’. Her beautiful work has inspired the children to create their own collages of powerful animals.

Our lucky Year 1’s also had a visit from an amazing author Jasmine Springer-Best. She shared her brilliant new book ‘I am’ with the class and they used it as a basis for some wonderful work!

If you are interested, Jasmine book can be purchased on Amazon UK.
