A message from Patrick- 29th April 2020
Hello Indigo class,
First of all I just want to say thanks to all those who handed in their poems! I have really enjoyed reading them and the winners will be announced later today.
Today I’m hoping that, as we are not able to explore it at school, each of you would be able to post 5 interesting facts about the continent of South America (what is a continent?)!
To get us started I’ll ask a question based on the map above: what language is spoken in most South American countries?

2. The Geoffroy’s cat inhabits the scrubby forest parts (One of them is the Pampas.)
3. The Geoffroy’s cat is nocturnal (Night animal) and a solitary (they do not spend time with others from their species) hunter that contacts member of the same species.

The maned wolf lives in southern Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Bolivia. Â Its habitat has lots of long grass so the maned wolf’s long legs help it move through the grass and see clearly. It has been described as looking like ‘a fox on stilts’ (though it actually is not a fox). The eat small animals such as insects, squirrels, rabbits and mammals that are small.

Portuguese is spoken in Brazil. Even though Brazil is just one country, it has such a huge population that is means Portuguese is the most spoken language in South America.
But what is the main language in most countries in South America (even if the 209 million people in Brazil speak don’t speak it)?

1. There are 12 Main countries in South America.
2. There are 3 Major territories in South America (French Guiana, the Falkland Islands and the Galapagos Islands.)
3. While most of South America Spoke in the language of Spanish and Portuguese (as Sophia said.)
4. Two of the animals i know that live in South America are Geoffroy’s Cat (They are Little Amazon Night Stalker,) And a Maned Wolf (With Long Legs And Red Fox Head.)
5. South America is the fourth largest continent in the world.-
That is fascinating Davmie! I have not heard of those animals before. I shall add some pictures of them above.

Excellent. It is a large solid area of land (though they also include islands). Most of the them are divided into countries as you quite rightly said.

Good question Davmie. Even though it looks like a fox it actually isn’t one (though I really like the nickname ‘fox on stilts’). As for the long legs, I believe maned wolf’s habitat has lots of long grass so its long legs help it move through the grass and see clearly.

I just found out, Maned Wolf live in southern Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Bolivia (they were split in different areas.)

Well you were only meant to find 5 facts so I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount you have come back with! If you want to carry on then put it all on a sheet and email it to our class email (the one I sent the report in). However, if you want to just explore the website and do other stuff then that’s absolutely fine!
