A message from Patrick- 20th May 2020
Good day!
How has everyone’s day been? I hope you have had a good day and enjoy the next chapter of the book we are reading on Purple Mash.
As you can see, the main picture when you click on the blog is an old stone stadium. It is the colosseum. Give me an interesting fact each about it and the time when it was built.
I want to just say thank you to Yi-Sheng for sending some excellent work from Week 5 on home learning. He has done a very persuasive letter arguing for a recycling scheme another letter arguing very well for animal rights. I am so impressed and very happy that he has sent that to me and I hope to see more work like this from everyone.
Finally, Michelle made a very good point yesterday regarding Davmie’s riddle from a few weeks ago. We never actually got the answer!

Sophia you will have to email it to the email address that I sent your report to. I know you said you struggled with it but if you get your parents to have one more go and make sure you can send it then it will be very good for the future as well.

Yes- use any email address that works. It can be gmail, yahoo, hotmail, outlook or any of them!

1. The Colosseum is an iconic symbol of the Roman Empire. It is one of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions. On Good Fridays, the Pope leads a torch lit “Way of the Cross” procession around the various levels of the amphitheatre.
2. There were many events that occurred at the Colosseum. Gladiator fights are the most well known, but there were animal fights and sea battles. The animal fights and gladiator fights were single deaths at a time and the Romans wanted more death and more excitement.
3. The Colosseum was actively used for four centuries for the purpose of providing free public entertainment, usually in the form of bloody games and battles.
4. In 217, the Colosseum was badly damaged by a major fire (caused by lightning, according to Dio Cassius) which destroyed the wooden upper levels of the amphitheatre’s interior. It was not fully repaired until about 240 and underwent further repairs in 250 or 252 and again in 320.
5.One of the most unique aspects about the Colosseum was the underground section that was underneath the main floor. It has 32 animal pens and 80 vertical shafts that allowed an instant access to the arena so that scenery could be placed or animals could be released to be put on display.-

2) It has 80 entrances.
3) It took 6 to 8 years to build the Colosseum.
4) It’s original name was the Flavian Amphitheater.
5) The Colosseum could seat 50,000.-
