Hello West Green,
Thank you very much to everyone who had a go at the question in my last message! Well done if you knew it was a deer’s skull. This one was male (a boy) and he was quite young. As Allana explained to us, we can tell it’s a male because of his antlers (those horn things).
Amazingly, a male deer’s antlers fall off and then regrow every year. Different deer species (types) can have very different looking antlers. I want to set a challenge for everyone. Who can tell me what species this deer belonged to?
You will have to do a bit of detective work to find out. Why not start with this helpful video?
Good luck!
I thought that was the body of a deer but now i know it’s the head of a Male deer
That’s right Davmie, this is just the head. A whole skeleton would be much bigger!
Well done, you got it again Allana. ‘Buck’ is what we call a male deer (like ‘bull’ for cows) and the species is ‘Roe Deer’.
That’s so cool. EPIC!! But sad in a way, because it’s dead.
